Comparison of simulated and measured grain volume changes during grain growth

The three-dimensional microstructure of Ni, observed after five annealing intervals, was compared to simulations grain growth using the threshold dynamics method with assumption capillarity as only driving force. A grain-by-grain comparison made it possible identify sources differences between simulation and experiment. most significant difference for grains smallest sizes, which predicted would lose volume disappear at a greater rate than in loss created errors numbers neighbors remaining grains, found that simulated were correlated number near neighbors. While anisotropic boundary properties likely play role differences, size dependence suggest might be necessary include model migration kinetics.
